On Wednesday February 13, 50 posted a video on his Instagram page of himself setting a Gucci t-shirt on fire and nearly burning himself in the process. At one point, you can see the T-shirt disintegrate into flames as 50 people stand over a pile of old Gucci clothes that he emptied from his closet.
“I have to get rid of all the Gucci that I have at home. I no longer support their brand, ”he wrote in the caption.
Before his bonfire for Gucci clothing, 50 Cent wrote on his IG that he was done with Gucci and was donating his wares to the needy. “Yeah, I’m gonna ditch Gucci, I’m giving all of mine to the homeless so the right demo can wear it,” he wrote.
Gucci’s’ 50s engraving also comes after he criticized his good friend and boxing icon Floyd Mayweather, Jr., The boxing legend recently told TMZ he didn’t care about the boycott and that ‘he would continue to buy from Gucci despite calls from TI, Spike Lee and others to stop supporting the brand. In response, the Power the designer took to his IG page and posted a photo of Floyd wearing the Gucci sweater in all his Blackface glory.
For those who don’t know, Gucci has been called out for their woolen balaclava sweater, which looks a lot like a person from Blackface. The fashion house has apologized for the offending object, but the damage had already been done. Several rappers including TI, Soulja Boy and Q-Tip boycott the fashion brand.
“@gucci As a 7-digit / year customer and long-time supporter of your brand, I have to say … YOU HAVE PICKED US !!” wrote Q-Tip on his IG page. “EXCUSES NOT ACCEPTED !!!!
