John Lewis & Partners keeps coming back to the trumps when it comes to affordable wardrobe staples that will last for years.
Whether it’s a cashmere sweater, joggers or well-cut jeans, the in-house designers really know what they’re doing. They know we like good quality at a good price, and they serve it, so it’s no surprise that parts sell out so quickly.
What will be the next potential selling sensation? We predict these cropped linen pants are about to disappear from shoppers’ online shopping carts at very high speeds (especially with a mini heat wave on the way).
The linen pant is a summer revamp of the already popular John Lewis & Partners Jersey Crop Wide Leg pant, which has already been a best-seller this spring. If you want cropped pants that won’t need ironing (the main disadvantage of linen), you might want to take a look at the original design, which comes in navy and black.
Most shoppers, however, love the lightweight linen upgrade, with one happy new owner even admitting to buying eight pairs in different colors. That’s the kind of devotion these pants inspire!
Why we review them
These classic culottes, which come in all the classic navy, white and light khaki hues, are available in sizes 8-18 and are made from pure linen so they’re not only durable, but will keep you cool and dry. Perfect for anyone going through perimenopause and its associated sudden sweats (if you know, you know)!
Another big plus? The trews have patch pockets in the front (thanks John Lewis for knowing the women always want pockets), and the waist is elasticated at the back, which means the pants have an easy and comfortable fit with a bit of stretch.

Its cropped length makes it the perfect summer piece that can be worn with strappy sandals, trainers and even high tops.
While they look laid back, who says you can’t dress them up a little with a nice blazer and sailor top? Or a white off-the-shoulder top and high heels for dinner on vacation?
What the critics say
With an average rating of 4.5 stars, shoppers rave about the pretty fabric and flattering fit, buy more than one pair, and even ask John Lewis to make them in more colors…
-
“I’ve bought several colors and hope John Lewis will add more. Could you add some peridot green, pink, black, etc.”
-
“I bought 8 of these in different colors! Good quality, good design.”
-
“Love it! Bought in white (they’re a bit sheer, but nothing beige can fix underwear!) and flattering – but still snug. I’ve got a 14 and a 16 and there’s no not much difference! Great pants – buy while you can!”
-
“These are excellent, flat fronted, well fitting, even generous. I bought 2 pairs and would have had three, but they only came in two colors when I bought them.”
-
“I bought them in three colors for the summer and I’m delighted. The elasticated waist is very comfortable and the linen of great quality. The white is a bit sheer but beige briefs solved the problem.”
