Several months after Karen Davila’s reaction to Lyca Gairanod’s birthday took social media by storm, the veteran journalist and inaugural winner of “The Voice Kids” celebrated her much-anticipated joint birthday in style.
As the videos posted to their respective vlogs on Saturday show, Davila and Gairanod crossed paths again, this time to mark the special occasion by donating bikes, phones and food to some of Gairanod’s neighbors in the town of Tanza, Cavite.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa inyong lahat for hosting our anniversary like you did. Medyo nakaka-pression kasi hindi naman namin inisip with viral ang ‘Oh, my God.’ I usually celebrate my birthday quietly. Pero, it’s special kasi may ka-birthday ako, ”Davila said in her vlog.
“We wanted it to be on other people. Mai pandemya po tayo ngayon. What we wanted to do was help people and give them gifts.
With the help of benefactors, some 45 bicycles, 14 smartphones with charging kits, 10 pocket Wi-Fi, food packs and bicycle safety equipment were distributed in Tanza.
The special occasion received a warm welcome from the chosen recipients, who said the bikes would reduce their travel costs.
“Hindi lang po for a special natin day. Para rin to sa mga taong kailangan nating bigyan, ”said Gairanod, who will be 17.
“Nagulat din ako kasi yung pahanda ni Ms. Karen is for me special in hindi lang for akin kundi for ibang tao. Ayaw kasi namin mag-birthday na kami lang masaya. Gusto namin can mapapasaya kami.
As expected, Gairanod performed some of his hit and cover songs, such as “Kabilang Buhay” to entertain guests and his neighbors.
The catering food featured lechon, originally promised when their first vlog went viral.
Meanwhile, Gairanod also received a luxury gift from the daughter of socialite Small Laude, a Gucci belt bag.
Laude also assured Gairanod to repair her house at the behest of her entrepreneur husband, Philip, which excited the former student of “Voice Kids”.
In September, Gairanod landed on Twitter’s hot topic list in the Philippines after this interview with Davila hit the internet.
In the viral clip, Davila asked Gairanod when her birthday was. It turned out that the young singer was born on November 21, Davila’s birthday.
Davila was visibly shocked at the coincidence and her screaming reaction made Gairanod step back a little, looking puzzled.
“Oh my God! Birthday ko iyon! Birthday on November 21st? Hindi ko alam ‘yun ah, wait hindi ko alam’ yun. Magka-birthday kami,” Davila exclaimed.
Several internet users were so amused by this interaction between Davila and Gairanod that some of them said they could not stop laughing while watching the clip.
Even Davila herself admitted that watching the short video also made her laugh.
Along with Gairanod being a hot topic on Twitter, their interaction also spawned a meme that is now being used across social media.
Towards the last part of this video, Davila promised to throw a birthday party for her and Gairanod’s birthday.
“We were made to meet. How many people ang makakatsamba mo, ini-interview ka, ka-birthday mo? Dear set in stone, kapag nag-birthday tayong dalawa, ako ang magpapa-party, ”she said.
